Dahlia Flower

I went by a pattern in my Cardmaker - Beautiful Blooms magazine to make my card. If you have the magazine it is on pages 32-33. This magazine is full of all kinds of flowers to make. HERE is a link to it if you are curious about it.

I save a picture of all the cards I have made for people so that I don't send two of the same type card or image, I went back and looked and I had made this card before back in 2008 for my girlfriend, today's card went to my Secret sister for the reveal.

Here is a picture of the card I made back in 2008:  Hopefully I am better at my picture taking now :)

And here is the card I made now:

I decided to do them as buds opening, not a whole flower.  Hand stitched the stems with floss and added some punch leaves that I scored some veins with my stylus.  The background is a burlap embossing folder, so this card had a lot of texture to it.

I found THIS video on how to make the flower so you don't have to go out and buy a magazine.  I am not sure what size circle I used for my flowers but I don't think it was as small as this girl used, but I think she has great instructions.

Taylored Expressions -- Burlap embossing folder
Teresa Collins -- He said she said papers
Martha Stewart -- Leaf  and tag punches
Spellbinders -- classic circle lg. die
Offray ribbon
ODBD -- Mini tag sentiments stamp

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by today and I hope you have a blessed Sunday!

Connie

beautiful cards!! i use to grow dahlia, they are so pretty with such a wide variety of colors and very easy to grow. but supporting/stalking them can be a full time job. i use to grow them to cut and bring inside but they always had bugs on them so i gave up!!!

i especially like the colors you chose for these!!!!

Oh, Connie, I love your paper-folding and love seeing the card for a number of years ago to this newest one! Yes, your photography has improved a lot (as hopefully ours all have!). What a beautiful new card with these dahlias, and I love the textured background! It's a stunning card and one that will surely delight your secret sister. Wishing you a blessing day today this Lord's Day! Warm hugs, sweet friend!

Wonderful how you keep photo's of the cards you make; to remind you of what you have shared with others and also just a joyful reminder of your wonderful card creations! Love both your flower cards.

Perfect for springtime! I can't wait to see the real buds appear in my garden too!

Oh, your flowers turned out so pretty! Love the embossed background on the second card, too. I always wonder when I send Christmas cards if I sent one with the same stamp in a previous year. That's the thing about hanging onto stamps so long. Good idea to keep a record!

Hi Connie, love this card and the way you did the petals. Your 2008 card is gorgeous too. The details are always so unique and interesting. Love the stitched stems. It's great how you take photos of all your cards for reference.
Have a nice evening. Blessings xo

It is an excellent idea keeping a record of the cards you have created. I guess that is one reasons why we blog....to remind us of what we have made and to whom we have sent our creations. Love both of these cards. The Dahlia is spectacular. It looks as if it has just popped up from the garden.....and....the second card too, is fabulous. You are so very talented, Connie!
