Ink Sprays

The next challenge I did in our stamp group this week was creating a background with spray inks.  There are many different brands on the market but I haven't invested in them, guess I tend to use designer papers for my backgrounds then to use ones I make myself, but I did have on color of green color wash and a few glimmer mist that I used with it.  We were to spray the colors onto glossy cardstock and then turn the paper to let them run together, I think it would have worked better if I had more ink sprays then the glimmer mists.

This was my results.

It was kind of warped so I set a few heavy acrylic blocks on it over night and it flattened pretty well, so I stamped this silhouette over it and then cut it out with my die. With the paper that was left over I cut out the sentiment also.

Of course I felt it needed a little more and a bit of a fall feel to it, so I added a few more leaves I had used in my other project.  Now I have a confession to make, I am not sure if it is because this is a new stamp or the fact that I was stamping on layers of glimmer mist but I just couldn't get a good solid stamp of the bottom area of the stamp, even using the Misti and stamping 4 times.  I was using Stazon ink, maybe I should have went with a different ink.  I tried adding black marker to it, that looked awful, so I grabbed some of my hubby's black heavy body paint, that ended up giving it a matte look to it and the other part of the stamp has shine, so that is why I went with adding the sentiment there.  I was going to put both leaves at the bottom but my hubby didn't like that he thought I should add just one at the bottom left but it just felt off balance to me so at the last minute I added the one at the top also, how would you have done it?  No leaves at all one or two but somewhere else, would love your opinions on that :)

Well we have been getting hit with big thunderstorms, you know those thunders that shake the house, those always make me a tad nervous but looks like they will be heading out of the area soon, bringing with it cool fall temps once again.

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by today,

Connie

GREAT JOB Connie! I too love your background panel and the silhouette stamp. As far as the leaves, I was taught in floral school to always use ODD numbers for balance. So ONE would have been just fine ... or add another maybe smaller one up in the right corner the your #2 leaf. LOL ... you asked!!

I have tree silhouette stamps that do the same thing; they don't stamp across the bottom well but I think it's due to a concave in my desk top or the wooden stamp in my situation. It's hard to make a background like you did using a lot of colors as they all muddle together and turn brown. You were right in using just a few and got a beautiful background as a result. This would have made a great Halloween card too.

Wow! A great way of featuring the beauty in your sprays, Connie, and the loveliness of your silhouette! GORGEOUS! I love that it is not the exact color of a sky, but rather, the feeling of the natural setting itself! Beautiful! hugs, de

Well, I like the two leaves ... and I think they balance the card design well.

Your thunder storms sound rather too large for me!
Stay safe

I love the background you created, Connie. The black sillhouete looks fabulous and I LOVE the two different leaves in the two corners; they set the card off perfectly.

You made a fabulous sky with your sprays! Kind of twilight looking. Sprays are not my friend, but it looks like you get along very well with them. Stamps with a large solid surface can be iffy. It's probably the stamp. Sometimes a foam pad helps, but not always. It sure is a beautiful stamp. I like that you added the sentiment there. As for those gorgeous leaves, it probably would have been difficult to fit two of them in the lower corner, but I like that idea. Maybe two at the bottom and one at the top. I think you and your hubby both had good ideas. Sometimes finishing off the card involves the most difficult decisions. I can agonize over the simplest accent. In the end it looks wonderful just as it is!

Hi Connie, I love the technique of spraying the ink on the glossy paper! I love the silhouette, too, with the birds flying among the trees. You did a wonderful job of covering up the 'mistake' and I think it turned out wonderful. Thunderstorms always make me nervous, too! You never know where the lightning will strike. Stay safe, my friend! Hugs xo Karen
