Hexagons

The ladies in my stamp group were talking about making cards with hexagons and one of their birthdays was coming up so I thought that would make a great idea to use for her card.

I first embossed the card stock with a hexagon embossing folder and ran my ink pad on the raised surface, then I searched through my yellow scraps and found some pieces to cut out with my smallest hexagon die that just so happened to fit perfectly inside the embossing folder spaces. I was going to fill them all up but thought that would be too busy so I just filled in a few spaces.  Then went about making my bees and flowers!

  • Paper Studio - Honeycomb Embossing folder, inked raise parts
  • Diamond Press - Hexagon dies, using scraps
  • Spellbinders - Be Bold Blooms dies
  • Bee die

I would like to share my card today with the

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by today,

Connie

Very nice. So, your card reminds me of a personal bee story. I was trout fishing with my brother, many years ago on a small stream in the woods, when he stepped on a yellowjacket nest. Those things came up out of the ground and were on him like ugly on an ape. He threw his fish one direction, and his pole another direction, and took of running yelling, "BEES! BEES!" Might be evil, but to this day I think about that and start laughing.

Thank you, Connie, for this pretty birthday card! I love it and I love how you filled in some of the hexagons. Now I need to pull out my hexagons to make a card.

It's so satisfying when tools from different brands actually line up like that. Limiting the yellow hexagons was a smart call too; it gives the design some breathing room and really lets your bees and flowers stand out. Good luck with the Triple B and "Can You Handle the Pressure" challenges! Those floral and bee elements sound like a perfect fit. Do you find that inking the raised surface of the embossing folder works better with a foam sponge or by swiping the ink pad directly?

The embossed background with a few hexagons on top looks great. The flowers made me think of dogwood. It's a gorgeous card!!

Your hexagon design feels so lively with the embossed background catching the ink so well and those selective yellow pieces adding just the right amount of contrast, and I love how your bees and flowers bring movement and charm to the whole layout while keeping everything balanced and cheerful.
