These were very hard sympathy cards to make, my final Aunt has passed away, and with both my parents gone a whole generation has left us, such a weird feeling to have. My Aunt looked a lot like my mom and since we live so far from one another we kept in contact through letters, this past Christmas I did not hear back from her so I was thinking either she couldn't see anymore or she was poorly.
She lived with her daughter and family for quite a few years and just recently went to live with her son and his family, so I made them both a sympathy card.
I was stuck for what to do so I went looking for challenges that might spark some ideas and this is the first card I came up with.
- My sentiments exactly - Floral Encouragement cards stamp set, colored w/markers
- Kat Scrappiness - Mini Slimline Stitched Rope dies
- Teresa Collins - Tell your story paper
I am sharing this card with these challenges:
Retro Rubber Challenge Tic Tac Toe (Slimline, Pattern Paper and Layers) Stamp is 5 years old
Simon Says Stamps - Slimline card
For my next card I went with another challenge over at Sisterhood of Crafters Dots and or stripes
I went with dots on this card. My butterfly was cut from a background I had made earlier using Oxide inks.
- Graphic 45 - Botanical Tea papers
- Spellbinders - A2 matting basics A die
- Pizzazz Aplenty - Butterfly die cut from Oxide blended background
- Taylored Expressions - Care & Comfort II sentiment stamp
- Memory Box - Stitched Rectangle layers die
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by today,
Connie

Oh, how sad to hear this Connie. It's so hard to watch as a generation passes on. I have no family left from my parents generation either. At first, it was very hard to wrap my brain around. Your cards are beautiful and very touching. I'm glad you look to The ONE who can bring you most comfort. Sending you hugs, my friend.
I love the One. When my brother was diagnosed with cancer, a nice lady told me...you never know what the future holds, but you always know whose hands hold your future, or something like that. It has brought me great comfort through the losses that keeping happening as I get older.
So sorry for your loss, they are all hard but to have the last of a generation pass on is really tough. I'm so sorry! Both of these cards are so beautiful and made with so much love. I know your cousins will appreciate the thought and care you have taken. Thankfully I have an Uncle and Aunt on my Dad's side and of course my dear old Mom who will be 93 come May. I am blessed! xoxo (((hugs)))
Oh Connie, I am saddened to read of the passing of your aunt. It is always difficult when the last of a generation passes. It does feel weird, doesn't it? It sounds as if she was well loved by her family and they lovingly cared for her needs and comfort till the end. She was a blessed lady to have such a family. As for your cards, both are beautiful and will be a loving hug of comfort for the recipients.
I'm so very sorry Connie. Sending hugs and prayers for strength and comfort. This circle of life stuff isn't easy. You made absolutely gorgeous cards. I have no doubt they appreciate the thoughtfulness of something handmade. And the words of peace and comfort sent with them. Have a blessed weekend. xo
Beautiful card and I am so sorry about your aunt. My mom came from a family of seven kids, one brother and two sisters and mom, of that age, then there were years of no kids. Later came my two aunts and uncle. I have the later kids left. Mom and her older siblings are all gone. I hate thinking that one day, that whole generation will be gone. It is crazy though to think about my aunts and that generation, me and my brother's as the next generation, my kids, nieces and nephews next in line, then their kids being the next generation and now my great granddaughter...that is a total of five generations still hanging on. Crazy to think how life keeps moving on ....
I'm so, so sorry for your loss my friend! Yes it's a terrible feeling ... my mom had 8 sisters & 3 brothers ... they are all gone now but 1 aunt who is in Texas and we never see. So I know what you mean ... my mom was next to the youngest of 12 and after she passed 3 years ago it felt so odd not to have any of my aunts around ... they were ALWAYS together! But I guess life goes on ... sad as it is!
Your cards are absolutely beautiful and I'm sure will bring great comfort! I'm glad you found inspiration at the Sisterhood. We always enjoy seeing what you share with us! Hugs
I am so sorry for the loss of your aunt. Sending you and your entire family love and prayers during this difficult time.
The rose image is so beautiful and works so well for a wonderful sympathy card.
I love that stunning dimensional butterfly. The blue and green work so well together and that is a great layout for it too.
I'm so very sorry for your loss!
The cards you made for your cousins are absolutely beautiful, and I'm sure it brought them comfort to receive them.
Both cards are absolutely beautiful and I agree, some of the hardest cards to make. I'm so sorry, Connie. Rich and I are both the elders in our families now and it was a very strange feeling at first. You've done a kindness making these lovely cards for her children who are surely feeling the loss acutely. Both cards are really beautiful. Hugs.
So sorry for your loss Connie, it is very hard when they have all gone and it is a weird feeling, but out of your sadness came these gorgeous cards, the rose is stunning, I love the colour and the stitched rope edging, and the beautiful delicate butterfly nestled on the spots and patterned paper gorgeous too..
